James Comey: FBI has found “pertinent” Clinton investigation emails
On Friday, FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee informing them that the FBI had uncovered new information regarding their investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. The letter was leaked, and we learned four big facts:
- The FBI found new emails that appear to be pertinent to the HRC investigation.
- The FBI found these emails in connection with an unrelated case.
- The FBI will take appropriate investigative steps to determine their significance.
- The FBI does not know if this material may be significant yet, or when they will know.
So far, the only confirmed detail from James Comey’s letter has been the unrelated case from which the new evidence has sprung. An FBI source told FOX that the new emails were found during an investigation into Anthony Weiner’s alleged cyber sexual misconduct with an underage girl.
The New York Times confirmed that the newly discovered emails came from a computer that Anthony Weiner shared with his estranged-wife, Hillary Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin.
With just 11 days to go before the election, many find it hard to believe that James Comey – a man who has received near-constant criticism from both conservatives and his own FBI agents for refusing to recommend charges against Hillary Clinton – would renew interest in this case with new evidence if it were at all avoidable.
Further details regarding the content and number of the newly discovered emails remains unknown. Regardless, the tabloid press has been running with the sensationalist aspect of this story – see tomorrow’s cover of the New York Post:
